What is the INFP dark side? Due to the positive trait of the INFP, people tend to think they are only sweethearts who only ever smile. The INFP are extremely compassionate and lost in their imaginations most times but there’s more than meets the eye.

Every Myers-Briggs type has a dark side and that includes the INFP who are referred to as the mediator. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as they are known for seeing and understanding multiple sides to a problem. Every so often, this can get exhausting.

This article explains the dark side of the INFP personality type.

Signs of The INFP Dark Side

1. Overly Emotional

One telltale sign that you don’t want to miss with the INFP dark side. The INFP is usually thinking about other people’s emotions. Yes sometimes they tend to put their first because they are loyal to their emotions. But this doesn’t mean they don’t overthink in both their situations and that of their friends and family.

When their dark side manifests, they overthink even more and become extra sensitive and emotional. They avoid talking about it because they do not want to be seen as annoying and overly sensitive. In the end, this increases their inner turmoil.

The INFP is known for their strong emotions so it’s easy to see how this plays out when they are in a dark place. Although they are always the go to person for help, having someone who cares about them makes it easier.

2. Cold And Withdrawn

The INFP known for their caring and welcoming nature will be cold and withdrawn in their dark side. This is something to be worried about because this isn’t usually how they are. They can become rude, lash out and so on.

The loving INFP who doesn’t mind letting things slide will most likely not be that way. They would seek their own pound of flesh and will be a lot more unforgiving. This can come as a surprise for people around them.

3. Depressed

Depression is a common dark side trait for the INFP. Due to their ability to live in their heads, the INFP has a vivid imagination which in most cases is good but when they are experiencing an episode, then it can make their sadness even worse.

It can lead them to becoming more isolated and thinking about their problems around the clock. Which worsens depression and in some cases even encourages suicidal tendencies.

They tend to ignore calls, spend more time alone, cancel plans and find it difficult to even get out of bed.

4. Self Absorbed Which Can Be Toxic

When the INFP is dealing with their dark side, they tend to be a lot more toxic. They can turn to drugs if the situation calls for it. Because they feel like nothing makes sense anymore, this can leave them scattered brained and desperately grasping on to reality whichever way they can.

They can begin to feel like no one has it harder than they do. Secluding themselves from people and only thinking about their emotions is the next line of defense. They can ignore their loved ones which ends up causing more conflict.

5. Problems Address Conflict

When the INFP dark side manifests, they end up with problems addressing conflict and would avoid that as much as they can. They can become passive in their relationships and detached from people as a whole.

The INFP dark side comes with various signs and shouldn’t be taken lightly. It is important to understand it and how to be better. There are various ways to feel better as an INFP in this condition such as seeing a therapist, exercising more, being active and talking to someone who understands.
