Who is the INFP-A and what makes them different from INFP T? The INFP as we know is one of the 6 personality types of the MBTI world. This stands for introversion, intuition, feeling and perception. Making the INFP an introverted character who are passionate in nature, carrying deep feelings which aid in their creative pursuit.

Just like other personalities, the INFP is further divided into the INFP T or the INFP A. Meaning turbulent and assertive, respectively. This article will focus more on the INFP A as we learn what goes on in their heads.

Who is The INFP-A?

The INFP A is still an INFP and will share very similar characteristics, the only difference is that now, they are assertive in nature. Their assertiveness makes them more independent and confident. They want to be in charge of things but most importantly, they want to be in charge of their own lives.

The INFP-A will avoid anyone who tries to control them and are quite outspoken when necessary. This can make them come off as extroverted. When IG comes to their enneagrams, this type can be anything ranging from  5, type 6 and/or type 9.  But they are mostly known to be type 4s.

Strengths of The INFP-A

What are the interesting strengths of the INFP-A?

1. They Are Confident

As mentioned earlier, the INFP-A becomes a lot more independent and confident unlike the typical INFP. INFPs are known for their emotional nature which means they can struggle with anxiety and depression. This isn’t as pronounced here.

The assertive nature of this INFP makes them more confident people who are not afraid to go after what they want.

2. Quicker At Decision Making

The assertive INFP will be a lot faster at making decisions compared to the turbulent INFP who are known to be slow and avoid it. Their assertive nature makes them a lot more decisive.

This is because they need to have control over their lives and leaving decision making to others and Chance doesn’t seem like a good way to go about it. They get more opportunities and are more in control.

3. Better Boundaries

If you’ve ever met an INFP, especially a turbulent one, it won’t be an unheard story of them having problems creating boundaries. This is because they do not want to hurt other people’s feelings so much they end up hurting their own.

The INFP-A will be different from this. They will create healthier boundaries as they don’t want anyone calling the shots in their own lives. This makes them less of people-pleasers and gets more respect for others.

4. More In Control of Their Feelings

The INFPs are feelers which means they carry about strong emotions and can struggle with them. This is especially true when it comes with negative feelings but the INFP A tends to handle this a lot better.

The INFPs have a crying stereotype attached to them but this doesn’t apply to the assertive INFP. They don’t cry as much and find other ways to get over their problems.

Weaknesses of The INFP-A

1. They Can Make Poor Decisions

Yes it has been stated that they are faster at decision making but this doesn’t guarantee that they are making the right decisions. In the bid to be independent and call all the shots, they can end up making wrong decisions.

This is because they do not necessarily want the opinions of others and doing things your own way always can lead to certain consequences.

2. They Can Be Stubborn

The INFP-A can be very stubborn and idealistic. This makes them stick to a belief while shunning anyone else. On the bright side, it can bring about respect from others but on the flip side, it can make them narrow minded and short sighted.

It is important for them to find a balance in order to make better decisions than they are used to.

3. Less Put Together

The assertive INFP can come off as less put together than other INFPs. Considering they are quicker at doing things, they barely have time to reflect or even analyze. This means they end up making more mistakes. Confidently.

It can be a problem when this happens as lots of mistakes over time can be draining.

Work For The INFP-A

It is important to understand they can’t do everything alone. Getting help every now and then can help especially with their decision making. Getting advices from people isn’t always a bad thing especially if you know they want the best for you and are more analytical than you are.

The INFP-A In Relationships

Every personality type has their own interesting approach to love and relationships. So if you’re looking forward to dating an INFP-A or you’re trying to learn more about your partner who is an INFP A, you need to keep reading. Here are important tips you don’t want to miss.

  1. The INFPs generally like a lot of alone time and this doesn’t change here. It might even be more pronounced. It is important not to take this personally as long as it is communicated respectfully. They need a lot of recharge time.
  2. This personality type is also very idealistic in nature and will hold their values strong. They need everything to be perfect and sadly that is impossible. So if you’re dating one, it is important to show your flaws and not hide it from them.
  3. They treasure quality time and physical touch as their top two love languages. This is one way to know they want you as they would rather be alone. They wouldn’t mind intimacy too if the feeling is mutual.
  4.  It isn’t uncommon for this personality type to want longer term commitments and relationships. They usually don’t just go into relationships for the sake of it or from boredom. They need something that means more.

It is important to note that this isn’t set in stone and there would be a few outliers. Do not be surprised when you come across this.

This personality type are usually compatible with more turbulent personality types such as the ENFJ-T and the ESFJ-T.  They find more extroverted partners better but this isn’t always the case.
